About The Crediton Foodbank

Crediton Foodbank is an initiative of Crediton Foodbank Charity to support local people in financial hardship.

At The Crediton Foodbank, we believe that no one in our community should have to face hunger. Located in the heart of Crediton, we are dedicated to providing emergency food support to individuals and families in crisis. Our mission is to offer a helping hand to those in need, ensuring that everyone in our community has access to nutritious meals, regardless of their circumstances.

Founded in 2011, The Crediton Foodbank is a volunteer-led organisation that relies on the generosity of our local community. Our team of passionate volunteers works tirelessly to collect, sort, and distribute food donations to those who need it most. We partner with local churches, schools, businesses, and individuals who share our commitment to tackling food poverty.

In addition to food parcels, we offer a listening ear, practical advice, and signposting to further support services. We understand that food insecurity is often a symptom of wider issues, and we strive to address the root causes of poverty by working closely with other local initiatives.

We are accountable to the Charity Commission and to our Board of Trustees.

Our Vision

To support local people who are in financial need by providing food parcels and additional support or signposting as required.

Our Aim

To provide compassionate, practical help, treating everyone we meet with dignity, whilst also challenging injustice both locally and nationally.

Our Basis

We work with people of all faiths and none, but we were originally an initiative of Christians Together in Crediton and therefore founded on Christian principles from Jesus’ words in the Bible:

“For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.”

Matthew 25:35-36

Our Values

Passionate

We believe that it’s not right for anyone to face poverty and hunger anywhere and especially in the UK and will do all we can to fight and stand against injustice.

Compassionate

We care about the people in our community and the wellbeing of the people we serve is very important to us. We will always uphold and protect their dignity.

Listening

We believe that everyone has a story and needs to be listened to. We will do our best to ensure these stories are factual and then use them to shape our service.

Empowering

We encourage everyone to speak out against injustice, supporting those who find it difficult to do so on their own.

Innovative

We will think ‘outside the box’ to find ways to support individuals, and to ensure that their voices are heard both by potential donors or people with influence where appropriate.
